General Guidelines
- Double-space the text of your paper,
- Use Arial 12 point font size
- Set the margins of your document to 1 inch on all sides.
- Indent the first line of paragraphs one half-inch from the left margin using the Tab.
- Leave only one space after periods or other punctuation marks.
- Include a Works Cited page at the end on a separate page if you use in-text citations.
Formatting the First Page of Your Paper
- Do not make a title page for your paper unless specifically requested.
- Insert a page number in the header using the Insert> Page Number option from the menu bar.
- Type your last name in front of the page number and hit the Space bar.
- Align your last name and page number to the right using the Align Right button
- Press the Return key twice and write the title. Center the title on the page using the Center button. Do not underline, italicize, or place your title in quotation marks; write the title in Title Case (standard capitalization), not in all capital letters.
- Press the Return key twice and start the first paragraph.
Do not use any of the following:
- NO borders
- NO word art
- NO drawings
- NO ALL CAPS
- NO exclamation points!
- NO underlining
- NO bold
- NO italics (except for references to sources or literature)
- NO different font types, sizes or colors.
